So today I was meant to be watching the tennis qualifying but instead I find myself on my way to Antwerp for the FEATS 2024 theater festival. It has been eight years since I was last in Belgium (how does time pass so quickly?!?) and that trip was for FEATS as well.
One of my friends is appearing in a show tonight and it is also their birthday so how could I not be there? It is just a flying trip (literally and metaphorically) so I won’t have time to do much but I am looking forward to reacquainting myself with Antwerp. And maybe finding some chocolate.
I arrived a few minutes earlier than scheduled in Amsterdam so was able to switch to an earlier Eurostar. So that means I managed to travel in three countries in about 3h10. Not bad work for a Saturday morning.
For anyone who is wondering about the sudden spate of blog posts, I have finally (!) got my (travel) mojo back and am feeling much more like myself. Lockdown was not my friend but I think that I am coming out of hibernation at last and I have my energy and enthusiasm back and so my only limitations are my vacation time and my bank account.
While employing my usual technique of exploring by wandering around, I discovered that my internal compass does not work in Antwerp. Several times I could have sworn I was walking in the the direction of the river when actually I was heading somewhere totally different!
There are some seriously cool shops in Antwerp so I had a lot of fun browsing and managed to get away with only buying one book. And Neuhaus has speculoos truffles again! They are not the same as they used to be, apparently now they are speculoos cheesecake flavor, but I still bought a whole box. Happy Lenny!
Now enjoying some downtime before I head to the theater. Tonight is plays from GEDS, The Hamburg Players and The University Players Hamburg. Unlike last time I attended FEATS, I’m only attending one night so I will only get one quarter of the picture. But it’s always good to see live theater.
