Intentions for 2023

Lenny January 1, 2023 New Year Leave a Comment 1098 Views

I looked back at my intentions for 2022 and it’s disappointing how poorly I did at achieving any of them. I think I basically need to try again with the same intentions this year.

The only one I was did succeed with was listening to music – have Bluetooth speaker, will bop. I bought a lot of music, revisited old favorites and found new ones. I also read a fair bit but mostly rereading rather than finding new books.

Make art

Whether writing, crafting or visual arts. Make something, something beautiful. Make something to keep.

Keep the music playing

I already have concert tickets for 2023 (the same band twice but that still counts, right?) But the main aim is to give my life a soundtrack. Music sparks memories, lifts my mood and makes me dance – there is no downside.

Practice yoga

I know, I sound like a broken record! But, as someone who owns more than one yoga mat, I should manage to do yoga occasionally. Which leads me to:

Establish good habits

I still have no rhythm or routine in my life. So I need to work on that. Even if it is just doing a daily Wordle or having a regular sleep pattern, I need to start doing things intentionally.

Journal

This would be the best daily habit. I recently reread a journal that I kept sporadically over a number of years and there are are so many good memories in there. Blogging would achieve the same purpose but that would really mean I need to establish good habits.

Walk more

Lockdowns and working from home have really broken my 10k steps a day record. It’s now all feast or famine and a week with 195k steps when traveling does not balance out all the sub-30k weeks at home. So what I need to do is:

Get out of the house

When I’m traveling, I’m active and enthusiastic. When I’m home, I just stop. If there is no absolute necessity to leave the house, I just don’t. Which is great for my TV viewing but not much else. So I need to just:

Switch off the TV

And do something else, anything else. (This will hopefully be easier now that Christmas movie season is over for another year.) But mostly just get off the couch (and out of the house).

Make a travel plan

Recent years have made me live in the moment and take the opportunities that come my way. But I need to sit down and work out where I really want to go and when I can go. There are only so many days in a year and fewer years in a life.

See people

And make memories. It’s not just what you do, it’s who you do it with. So fill my calendar, make my life fun.

Here’s hoping 2023 is a good year and that I actually manage to achieve something, anything.
