Blackpool doesn’t have the best reputation but I love it because it’s the seaside. And the weather was so warm while I was there that it did feel like an exotic holiday destination.
Unsurprisingly for me, this was a trip based round a gig – Tim Minchin at the Blackpool Opera House. That was worth the trip on its own. Second time I’ve seen him live (the first was when he was leaving LA – that was a stop off in my epic train journey up the West Coast) and I think he was even better this time.

What I love most about Blackpool is the length of the Promenade. I love to walk by the sea. And if you get tired, there is always the tram which runs as far as Fleetwood. Lots of people were out enjoying the weather and even venturing into the sea. I kept my feet dry though.

Blackpool doesn’t just have one pier, it has three, each with their own distinctive features. And all easily accessible by the aforementioned tram. On a hot day wandering out to sea along the pier is a great way to find a cooler breeze.

The most prominent feature of Blackpool is, of course, the Tower. I didn’t have the time (or the inclination) to go up this time so I guess I’ll just have to go back to Blackpool sometime. Maybe to see the Illuminations.
