(Updated because I forgot one!)
I know it’s a little late in the month for declaring New Year’s resolutions but it’s a process I enjoy. To be honest my resolutions are generally along the same lines every year, with varying levels of success!
So, in 2018, I intend to:
- Remember to blog
I am so behind with my blogging for 2017. I generally find it easier to blog when traveling solo rather than spending time with friends because then I do things like…be sociable. So, this year, I aim to do better with real-time blogging but also, if I can, to catch up on 2017 because I have so many cool things to talk about.
- Do more yoga
What with spraining my ankle and other less valid excuses, my good yoga intentions drifted in 2017. I practiced maybe 50 times and not all so far this year. I aim to do better.
- Walk 10,000 steps a day
When I’m traveling I sail past this goal but when I spend time with friends or I have a heavy workload, I’m not so good. I managed to lose my activity tracker whilst I was in Croatia last year so I don’t have complete stats for 2017 but in the second half of the year I averaged 12,885 steps a day so this intention should be achievable.
- Watch the sun rise
My favorite times of day are sunset and sunrise. I saw some fabulous sunsets last year, especially those in Zadar, but not too many sunrises. I know I function better when I get up early and have a good morning routine so making an effort to see the sunrise could just make my days go better.
- Not go to Disney World
It feels a bit counter-intuitive to have a negative resolution (I don’t generally aim to give things up for the New Year) but this feels like a good one. I’ve been to Disney World four times in the last four years and I love it. I’ve also been to Disneyland Tokyo and Disneyland Paris, as well as Universal Studios in Orlando, Osaka and Los Angeles, so I’m doing pretty well on the theme park front. This is definitely only a 2018 resolution; it feels like the right time to take a break, plus I have an annual pass for Disneyland Paris so I think I should maximize my use of that to get my Disney fix.
- Read new books
Not necessarily newly published books but just books that are new to me. I probably read about 100 books a year but mostly re-reading old favorites and always fiction. I think I read the Harry Potter books at least four times in 2017 and Pride & Prejudice three times and that’ll probably never change but I’ve bought some new books to add into the mix. Any recommendations for books I might enjoy will also be gratefully received.

I think I’ve set achievable resolutions and I just need to get started on them as soon as possible. My one week break for Christmas somehow shifted into a four-week one and, although being ill sucks, it has given a chance to sort out some stuff and start thinking about big choices for the future. However, I will be hitting the road (well, the skies) in a couple of days and I could not be happier. My feet are definitely itching. So cross your fingers that I get my act together and keep you up-to-date on my travels.
