A new year and a fresh start – exactly what I needed. I spent a great family vacation in Tucson between Christmas and New Year (and spent New Year’s Eve in a fancy resort hotel). Mostly indulged in outdoor activities including a satisfying hike through Bear Canyon to see waterfalls. The seven river crossings (there and back) just added to the adventure. The fact I could barely walk by the end of the day was proof of the value of the hike.
Other highlights included the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Biosphere 2 (has anyone seen the movie Bio-Dome?). The latter was totally up my street and spawned a few creative ideas.
A long, rainy drive back to New Mexico on New Year’s Day has given me my main New Year’s Resolution:
- Spend 2017 chasing rainbows
I’ll let you know how I do.
On the blogging front, I went a little quiet in 2016; after 25 posts in the first half of the year, I published only 10 in the second half. So that is my second resolution for 2017:
- Blog more consistently
As a recent convert to yoga (after an introduction at a hen party of all places!), I want that to turn into a habit for 2017. I managed to attend 5 classes in December and I’d like to keep up the rhythm, so:
- Practice yoga regularly
I could make a resolution to do with traveling but we all know that is something I will do regardless. I will repeat the resolution I make every year though which is:
- Aim for 10,000 steps per day
I’ve given myself a bye for January 1 as 7+ hours in a car is not conducive to much walking, plus I banked enough additional steps whilst in Arizona to ease into the year gently.
My final resolution for 2017 is:
- Appreciate every single day
One thing I learnt from 2016 is that some clichés are true: life is short and you can’t know what the future holds. So I plan to make every day meaningful in some way and to enjoy the small things that happen. (I already appreciate the people in my life – I’ve gathered a pretty special bunch.)
So those are my resolutions. I’ll let you know how I do. I’d be interested to hear your New Year’s resolutions too, especially if I can help you achieve them.
Here’s to a happy, healthy, fun-filled year.
Love your resolutions and I’ll join you in some! I’ll do the 10,000 steps one and the appreciate every single day. I’ll add taking care of myself (body and mind), and being more mindful and connected to my friends and family.
