My final day in Ticino was also Mother’s Day which made a leisurely Sunday lunch a less viable option because that’s what everyone else was doing. So I hopped on a train and headed to Locarno. After yesterday’s exertions, the plan was to have a easy day but I had a slight hiccup when all the luggage lockers in Locarno were full – it’s a good job I travel light, had to take my bag with me.
It is a really quick walk down the hill from Locarno station to the Imbarcadero to catch a boat to Ascona so I managed it even with the delay looking for somewhere to stash my luggage. The weather was pretty overcast but it was warm enough to appreciate the cool breeze on the lake.
The boat continued on to the Isole di Brissago before turning round and coming back but that gave me time to hang out in Ascona and eat gelato. Apparently the order I want the flavors on the cone is controversial but, hey, I like what I like.
Today was mostly a travel day though (six hours to get home) so too soon I had to catch the boat back to Locarno to catch the first of three trains.
And so ended a lovely weekend in Ticino. But I’ll be back. Soon.
