I know that the world is a big place and there is so much of it that I still want to see. But there will always be the places I keep going back to. As my cousin said recently, I’m just like my grandad.
Despite the amount I travel, very few of my trips are what I would call holidays. But I keep coming back to Ticino, and Lugano in particular, because I have the feeling of being on holiday and, at exactly the same time, feeling completely at home.
I always stay in the same family-run hotel and it’s nice to be greeted by name when I walk through the door. I have my favorite restaurants, the shady spots where I sit and read, boat trips on the lake. And, of course, there’s gelato.
This is a short break because I don’t have a lot of vacation time this year but after the wet weather I’ve had recently (everywhere I’ve been!), I suddenly find myself in gorgeous spring weather (summer by British standards). It shouldn’t be a surprise, Ticino does have its own microclimate which is why it is great to visit in Spring and Autumn. However, it does mean my packing wasn’t optimal – I brought the sunscreen but it should have been sundresses and sandals.
I have no fixed plans for this trip so I can just go wherever the mood and my appetite takes me. A couple of lazy days in the sunshine with the opportunity to revisit my favorite haunts
This is the view that greets you when you arrive, is it any wonder I’m happy to be back?
