Situated close to the centre of Geneva (10 minutes by tram or, if you’re me, a 30-minute walk) is the town of Carouge. Effectively now a suburb, it has a different feel to Geneva and maintains a sense of being a small town. Crossing the River Arve does make it feel like you’re travelling somewhere new, or rather old.

Carouge has an interesting history – built by the King of Sardinia as a Catholic refuge from Calvinist Geneva, it’s a series of attractive streets, interesting alleyways and independent boutiques. Packed with bars, restaurants and patisseries, Carouge is a a gourmand’s treat.

But on this particular day it’s just a leisurely Saturday afternoon walk home from a 12-year old’s birthday party. I know. I’m lucky. There are worse places to be.

A trip down memory lane. Carouge was my favorite place!
Glad I could remind you!
