So four weeks later and I’m back in Belgium, this time for a Saw Doctors gig. It’s been twenty years since I last saw them live which is pretty unbelievable!
Although I was staying in Brussels, I didn’t see much choosing instead to catch the train to Ghent. Nothing looked that familiar when I exited the train station but somehow I auto-piloted to the town center – a twenty five minute walk – so clearly Ghent is still in my soul. I think it is my favorite place in Belgium. I mean Bruges is beautiful but just a little bit too perfect.
I found an incredible restaurant for lunch: Poule & Poulette. I had the Greek-Style butterfly chicken and it was incredible!
The rest of the day was just exploring by wandering around, so many nooks and crannies to explore. And lots of canals.
Had to head back to Brussels relatively early to get to the gig. And, even though I arrived at the venue just as doors opened, I still managed to be front and center up against the barriers. It was an amazing show! Sang myself hoarse. I pity the people standing around me that had to listen to that.
Tomorrow’s plan is Bruges although the weather forecast isn’t great so I may have to take shelter and drink beer. Haven’t had a Kriek yet. And lots of chocolate to buy!
